Principal's Message
Friday 23 September 2022 - Term 3 Week 10
Dear Parents and Carers
As Mr Watts is on leave this week, I have the privilege of sharing some thoughts with you. Over the last week, I have been fortunate to attend three fantastic Catholic School events that I am incredibly proud to highlight.
Firstly our outstanding School Musical, Hoodwinked. What an experience this production was for our students, and wow, did they shine! At St Augustine’s, we value the Arts, and the musical is the pinnacle of the student’s Creative Art’s learning experiences to date. As you can no doubt imagine performing at such a high standard takes extreme dedication, commitment, collaboration, lots and lots of patience, not to mention a great deal of talent.
A huge congratulations to our students for stealing the show and to our staff, in particular, Mrs Wendy O’Sullivan and Mrs Leonie Hewitt and their team, for all of their hard work and going above and beyond to ensure the performances were of such a high standard. Musical students, no doubt you will treasure your memories of being in the musical, and I know our younger students were in awe of you and can’t wait for their turn!
I went to St John Paul College on Wednesday for their annual Year 12 Graduation. Possibly having taught the class of 2022 three times, in Year 1, Year 2 and Year 4, made this ceremony extra special for me, but once again, I was in awe of the students and staff in Catholic Schools. This was a truly special morning, and the community came together to celebrate the successes of the 2022 Year 12 cohort and wish them luck on their new adventure…life as an adult! Bishop Gregory Homeing was on hand to deliver one of his beautiful and wise speeches, encouraging the students to be good, loving people using Christ as a guide and friend.
On Wednesday evening St Augustine’s Parish celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation. Bishop Greg was there to Confirm our 82 students who received the sacrament along with children from our Parish. Once again, I felt the tremendous warmth of community, faith and love. Bishop Greg reminded us of the gifts we all strive for in our lives - the strength to do the right thing (even when it is hard) and the gift of learning to love those around us (yes, even your siblings!).
As always, we finish the term looking back and looking forward. We thank our students and families for a great term and look forward to Term 4 - full of fun with the Colour-Thon, Year 5 and Year 6 camps, The School Fete, End of Year Awards Day, Year 6 Graduation, The Nativity, School Reports and much more!
Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday,
Naomi Loader

Faith and Mission News
Sacrament of Confirmation
Congratulations to all our candidates on receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation on Wednesday evening. Candidates were anointed by our Bishop, Bishop Gregory. The Bishop met with the candidates for some final preparation, teaching the children about the significance of Confirmation and the many lessons we can take with us on our faith journey. It was a night full of joy and recognition of the gifts of the Holy Spirit received through Confirmation. We continue to pray for the children; may the Holy Spirit continue to work in their lives and allow them to grow ever closer to God through Him.
Altar Serving
If your child has received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion and would like to be trained as an altar server, please complete the Expression of Interest form. For further information please call: Parish Office: 66510000 or Email: coffsadmin@coffscatholic.com
Year 4 Accendere Retreat
On Monday 19 September, Year 4 students attended the Accendere Retreat at the Curran Centre. Accendere means to ‘switch on’, kindle to catch fire, light to strike, to produce/spark the flame. The activities throughout the day were centered on friendship, encouraging students to spark the flame of friendship. They worked together, accepting and including each other, just as Jesus did. The students were fortunate enough to have Darcy and Gabi, the YMO’s from JPC lead them in many games and activities that got them thinking about the theme of friendship. The students finished their retreat with a Mass led by Fr Joy. A big thankyou to the Year 4 teachers for all their hard work and preparation in making the retreat a success.
Parish Playgroup is back
9am Tuesdays (during school term) at the Curran Centre (Parish Office), 12 Gordon Street, Coffs Harbour.
We warmly invite families with babies, toddlers, pre-school age children/grandchildren to join our parish playgroup. If you are interested in becoming a Playgroup helper, to offer assistance with set-up or leading a craft or music activity, please contact the parish office on 6651 0000.
