Principal's Message
Thursday 6 April 2023 - Term 1 Week 10
Dear Parents and Carers,
Easter is the central celebration of the Catholic faith. Each year it is celebrated on the full moon after the vernal equinox, traditionally to light the pilgrims' way. Holy Week recalls the events leading up to Jesus' death and is a reflective time before the joy of Easter Sunday, celebrating Jesus' resurrection. As a school we remembered the events of Holy Week in the form of a dramatised version before moving quietly to the Church to reflect on the mystery of God’s ultimate gift to the world.
Congratulations to Mrs Dom Montford, who was successful in her application for the Acting Assistant Principal - Mission role. Dom will take over from Naomi Loader who is now Acting Principal from 5pm today! My thanks and gratitude go to them both and I wish them all the best in their challenging positions.
A reminder to let the school know if plans change for picking up your child. This is especially important if they are booked into OSHC as if they don’t turn up to After School Care and are at school, we are responsible for their whereabouts and have to track them down until we find them, causing extra work.
Wow! The St Augustine’s swimming team have done it again, with outstanding results at the NSW All-schools PSSA carnival. Competing against the fastest in the state, we had outstanding results, and we are one of the best represented schools in the state. Well done kids and well done parents, who do the hard yards with training and travel each week.
Don’t forget the ANZAC Day march this year. It will be on Tuesday 25 April, before the kids return for their first day back Wednesday 26 April. Make sure your child is in full school uniform including a school hat and drink bottle. Meet outside Genesis Gym at 8.45am and staff will be there to assist.
The staff development day scheduled for 1 June will no longer be happening due to the keynote speaker cancelling. It will be a normal school day and business as usual.
Finally, this will be my last newsletter at St Augustine’s for a while, as I have been seconded to Dorrigo. I wish everyone all the best and I hope you have a fantastic family Easter.
Grace and peace,
Peter Watts
Principal

Holy Week Pilgrimage

We will celebrate His glorious resurrection together at 9am on the first day of Term 2 Wednesday 26 April . Parents and carers are welcome to attend this short celebration which will be held in the church.
Easter Blessings to all our families
May the glory and the promise of this joyous time of year bring peace and happiness to you and those you hold most dear.

Project Compassion Appeal 2023
A huge thank you to all the families who gave so generously to Project Compassion this year. Should you still have your Project Compassion box at home, it can be brought to school early next term.
ST AUGUSTINE’S ADORATION CHAPEL
Could you not watch one hour with me? Matthew 26:40
We are blessed to have a Perpetual Adoration Chapel in our parish open Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4pm to adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
Our Chapel is located at the Curran Centre (Parish Office) on the opposite side of the Church carpark.
The Chapel is a place for silent prayer and reflection. Similar to Church, eating and drinking are not permitted.
If one of your Lenten goals this year is to pray the Rosary or read the Bible more often,
then committing to a regular time to visit the Chapel each week
is a perfect way to help you stay on track with your Lenten promises.
Every hour the Chapel is open we have a volunteer “Guardian” who is present,
so the Blessed Sacrament is not left alone.
A vacancy has just become available for a Guardian for 2pm Mondays.
We would like to see if any parents/grandparents/carers from the school community
would like to take on this 1 hour role, which will be finished by 3pm, for school pickup time.
This role can be shared amongst family/friends to share the load if someone is away and
also to benefit from the graces received from spending silent time together in the Chapel.
Parents/carers are also encouraged to bring their children to the Chapel before or after school.
For more information please contact our Chapel Committee members
Maurice on 0407 934 088 or Doreena 0481 764 164.
Reconciliation Times in our Parish are as follows:

Music: Boom, Boom Buckets
Mrs O'Sullivan has been working with Year 6 students on 2-part drumming pieces. Here is an example of the skill and creativity among our students. Congratulations on such focus and concentration in producing this standard of work.
Parent Storytelling Term 2
Our parent storytelling initiative is about parents reading to students in small groups. We want to make reading a fun and enjoyable experience for parents and students alike. This is voluntary for parents. You may be able to make it one week but not the other or not at all due to work commitments. That’s ok. Toddlers are welcome and can sit with the parents/children during the storytelling time. Please click the link to register your interest.

Y2 - 'Charlie and The Chocolate Factory' Day
This term Year 2 have been studying Roald Dahl's 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' and on Tuesday 4 April Mr Wonka had some very able assistants inventing all manner of new items for his 'factory' - a new kind of cookie, a chocolate making machine and an exciting new lolly packaging design. The asssistants came dressed as their favourite 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' character and there were even a few lucky GOLDEN TICKET winners to complete the day!
Y4 - 'Danny The Champion of the World' Day
Year 4 thoroughly enjoyed 'getting into character' on Wednesday 5 April for a celebration of their Term 1 study text - 'Danny The Champion of the World' by Roald Dahl. The day's activities included a writing task exploring 'character' and the design & construction of a kite (followed by subsequent test flights with mixed results). Great day!
ANZAC DAY Tuesday 25th April
Dear Parents and Carers,
Each year students from Kinder to Year 6 are encouraged to represent St Augustine's in the ANZAC Day march. If your child is able to march with our school, please meet outside Genesis gym in full school uniform, including your school hat, at 8:45am on Tuesday 25 April. It is advisable for students to carry a drink bottle. Students will march with school staff. Parents may collect students from the end of the march before students are seated at the cenotaph or after the ceremony. Students will remain with staff until a parent collects them.
HPL - Visual Arts
Our HPL artists from Year 5 and 6 have entered their very first exhibition. The exhibition is an 8x8 small works competition. The works are based around the theme - 'Small Wonders'. Each student has created a mixed media response to the theme using their own thoughts and creativity. The works look amazing.
Ms Perkins is so pleased with the students dedication, creativity and passion for their works. We wish each of them the very best in the first exhibition of their work. The exhibition will run throughout the month of April at the Ferry Park Gallery in Maclean. It is a wonderful little gallery so feel free to stop in if you're travelling and take a look at some of the incredible works, both by students and adults.
Meanwhile our artists will start preparing for their next exhibition of work in Week 1 of next term. Looking forward to seeing what they create.

Thank you to our members who worked hard each day selling tickets and taking guesses. We wish everyone a Happy Easter.
