Principal's Message

ANZAC Day 2023

St Augustine's - Clarence Zone Cross Country Champions

K - 2  Athletics winning house - Green

Friday 5 May 2023 - Term 2 Week 2

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Term 2. We began the term by celebrating the mystery of God’s ultimate gift to the world and his resurrection.  Jesus’ resurrection, celebrated on Easter Sunday, is the most holy day of the year for Christians. The children enjoyed a beautiful liturgy in the Church to celebrate this significant event.

A big thank you to those students who were able to join us for the ANZAC Day march this year. Acknowledging the courage and sacrifice of those who contributed so much in shaping the identity of our nation is a rewarding and special thing to do as a school community.

I urge all parents and carers to complete the Tell Them From Me survey prior to it closing next Friday. The data collected is analysed by our staff and contributes to goal setting and impacts the direction of the school’s strategic plan. Once our data has been collected and analysed I will be sure to feedback the results and intended actions to families and students. To complete the survey please click here.

Next Tuesday evening the Parent Forum will meet. If you have any issues or suggestions you would like discussed at this meeting please email SAPSParentForum@outlook.com

On Wednesday 10 May we will welcome our prospective Kindergarten families for a Kindergarten 2024 Information Evening.  The night will begin in the school Hall at 7pm. All prospective Kindergarten parents and carers are welcome to attend.

Congratulations to our amazing K-2 athletes who have sprinted, cheered and raced their hearts out at today’s K-2 Athletics Carnival. The sun was shining and a great day was had. We definitely have some olympians in the making! Congratulations to Green house for taking out the day.

Finally, a huge thank you to our leadership team, staff, families and students for a very engaged and rigorous start to Term 2. As always our vision is that Every Child Thrives under the banners of:

Belonging, learning, believing and achieving.

Kind regards,

Naomi Loader

Acting Principal

Faith and Mission News

Jesus Is Risen! Alleluia!!

On the first day of term, our whole school community gathered to celebrate that Jesus, our Lord and Saviour, is risen and is with us always. Because of this, we are joyful people and we shout 'Alleluia', our special word of Easter joy. We also heard the story of the two followers of Jesus who, on Easter Sunday morning, were on their way to the town of Emmaus. Jesus came among them, explained the scriptures to them and revealed who he was to them in the breaking of the bread. The disciples then ran back to all the other followers to tell them that Jesus truly was risen. The children noticed the similarities between the events of this day and what happens every time the Mass is celebrated. Therefore, every Eucharistic Mass is actually a mini Easter celebration and we, as followers of Jesus, are joyful people. ALLELUIA!

Mother’s Day Liturgy

Next Friday 12 May at 9am, a special Mother’s day liturgy will be held in the assembly area. We hope many mums will be able to join us and we wish all mums a very Happy Mother’s Day.

Dear Lord,

We give You thanks for all mothers who so generously and freely give love,

comfort, and guidance to their children every day.

We ask you, Lord, to provide them with the strength to continue doing their work.

Give them patience and let them see that they are loved, appreciated, and respected.

We thank you for the sacrifice each mother makes every day

and we pray You to bless them and touch them with your Grace.

We pray this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

May is the month of Mary

If you would like to see what the children have been discussing about Mary’s month and join in a special prayer called ‘The Angelus’, click HERE

Pentecost Sunday/Multicultural Mass

Pentecost Sunday falls on 28 May this year and our school, in conjunction with the St Augustine's parish, will celebrate this day with a Multicultural Mass. At this Mass, families will celebrate all their different cultural backgrounds through hymns and prayers in different languages and processions featuring the flags of our cultural heritage. After the Mass, over in the Curran Centre, there will be sharing of traditional foods, songs and dances. All are welcome to join us on this joyful day. If you have a song or dance that you would like to share at the gathering after Mass, please contact Maria Woods.

Learning and Teaching

Student posts on Seesaw

Parents are encouraged to check your Seesaw app each Friday to see your child’s post about their learning each week. You can ‘like’ a post and comment on it by writing something or using the voice recording option.

Learning Journeys

Starting this term we will be reinstating learning journeys following a hiatus due to Covid-19 restrictions. Learning journeys contribute to building stronger connections between families and student learning while celebrating the growth and achievements of our students. A note has been sent out via Compass with information about learning journeys, their purpose and dates and times for each cohort. You will find the dates also on the school calendar and I have included them below.

  • Monday, May 15: Year 1 and Year 6
  • Tuesday, May 16: Year 2 and Year 5
  • Wednesday, May 17: Year 3 and Year 4
  • Thursday, May 18: Kindergarten

Parent Storytelling Term 2

Our parent storytelling initiative is about parents reading to students in small groups. We want to make reading a fun and enjoyable experience for parents and students alike. This is voluntary for parents. You may be able to make it one week but not the other or not at all due to work commitments. That’s ok. Toddlers are welcome and can sit with the parents/children during the storytelling time. Please click the link to register your interest.
