Principal's Message
Friday 16 June 2023 - Term 2 Week 8
Dear Parents and Carers,
I was fortunate to attend the Xavier School of Mission conference this week. The conference's theme was 'The Light of the World - Reaching into Mission'. The conference covered the work of Missionary Disciples. Missionary Disciples, all baptised Catholics, whatever their positions in the Church or their level of instruction in the faith, are agents of evangelisation. We are all called to be the good news to others through daily encounters.
The conference reminded me how blessed our staff are at St Augustine's. We get to have authentic daily encounters with our students and families. We are continually cognisant of the huge and privileged responsibility we hold to work with our students and guide them in the development of their lives - spiritually, emotionally and academically. And yet it also reminded me that our students are missionary disciples who reflect the light of Christ to others in their lives, including our staff.
On Tuesday night, the Parent Forum met. I was able to outline in my report to them the following points:
- Our Years 3-6 Carnival was a great day - any feedback on how this event runs is always appreciated. Please email candice.butcher@lism.catholic.edu.au with any suggestions for improvement.
- We recently had our trees onsite rechecked by an arborist, and two trees required immediate attention. This work has now been completed.
- Teachers are currently completing our Semester One reports. Please see Mrs Michelle Scott's Learning and Teaching section for information on when and how these will be shared with you and any report changes. I thank our teachers for their time and effort in writing each student's report.
- Capital works being prepared:
- The kindergarten garden area outside rooms is being re-designed with seating space for outdoor learning.
- A false ceiling, lighting and painting outside the Year 1 learning space.
- An extension to the K-2 playground (combined Parent Forum and school funded).
I would like to thank the Parent Forum for their ongoing support, advice, feedback and open dialogue about improving our school.
Kind regards,
Naomi Loader
Acting Principal

Semester One Report
Semester 1 Reports
Semester 1 reports will be available to parents and carers via Compass on Wednesday, June 28, at 3 pm.
The release of the new K-2 English and Mathematics syllabuses this year (and 3-6 in 2024) provides the Catholic Schools Office with the opportunity to revise aspects of the K-6 Student Report to align with current research, NESA requirements as well as develop a consistent approach across the diocese as schools transition to Compass. As a result, there will be a change to one of the Common Grade Scale descriptors on our school's 3-6 student reports this year. See below for more information:
Achievement Grades in Year 1-Year 6 are identified on a 5 point scale using the descriptors from the Common Grade Scale: The Common Grade Scale describes the performance of students in Year 1 - Year 6 at each of the five grade levels A-E using descriptors. From Semester 1, 2023, the grade E will be represented by the descriptor Elementary instead of Limited to align with NESA and system requirements.
A reminder to our K - 2 families that the school report has changed with the release of the new K-2 English and Mathematics syllabus. To assist families in understanding some of the new terms in the reports, the Catholic Schools Office has compiled a glossary of terms that may prove helpful. Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you require further clarification.

Parent Storytelling Term 2
Our parent storytelling initiative is about parents reading to students in small groups. We want to make reading a fun and enjoyable experience for parents and students alike. This is voluntary for parents. You may be able to make it one week but not the other or not at all due to work commitments. That’s ok. Toddlers are welcome and can sit with the parents/children during the storytelling time. Please click the link to register your interest.

Year 3 - 'The Chronicles of Narnia' Day

always a king or queen.”
~ C.S. Lewis
[ The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe ]
Year 3 stepped 'into character' on Thursday 15 June as part of their learning on 'The Chronicles of Narnia'. The students have been exploring similes, personification and idioms throughout their study of the text. On Thursday they worked on Narnia puzzle sheets, videoed their own 'next chapter' of Narnia and watched the movie.
