Principal's Message
Friday 10 May 2024- Term 2 Week 2
Dear Parents and Carers,
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums this Sunday. We had a fantastic roll-up to the breakfast and liturgy and the children entertained us with beautiful singing and funny stories today, with words of wisdom from Nancy Feltrin and Leanna Straw. The rain only bothered us a little, so we were fortunate to squeeze the event in between showers. Many thanks to Mrs Loader and staff who helped set up the area (and the pastries - yum) to make the day such a success.
Enrolments for 2025 Kindergarten close on Friday 24 May, so if you would like to enrol your child, please act on it now. If you know anyone that is thinking about enrolling, please remind them as the date is closing in quickly. On Tuesday next week (14 May) we will have a 2025 Kindergarten Parent Information Night, which is great to attend for new parents as we meet many of the teachers and other parents and learn more about the school.
A reminder to please, please, please label all lunch boxes, drink bottles and clothing. If it has a name we will return it but if not it will appear on the lost property table to be claimed, but after a while we need to throw things out as it builds up so much. Ideally, children will take responsibility for their possessions but many are just not there yet, so the labelling helps us and saves you money.
The Parent Forum is funding a major new landscaping project at the school, converting the eroded hill area and wall down to the field near the gum trees. This is weather and material dependent so timelines are flexible at the moment but we hope to have it completed this year. The Forum is also funding (through your generous donations) a new veggie garden, with raised beds, a class area to sit and a chill-out zone for children. Our happy chooks will stay where they are and hopefully continue to lay eggs for the canteen.
In the next school holidays the Year 3 classrooms will have an update, with new acoustic ceilings, fans and lights, with glass doors between spaces. This will not only make the space look better but improve the sound quality within the spaces. Some sinks will be installed outside the rooms as well.
I hope you all have a lovely Sunday and the weather cooperates.
Grace and peace,
Peter Watts
Principal

Mother’s Day Prayer
Dear Lord,
We give You thanks for all mothers who so generously and freely give love,
comfort, and guidance to their children every day.
We ask you, Lord, to provide them with the strength to continue doing their work.
Give them patience and let them see that they are loved, appreciated, and respected.
We thank you for the sacrifice each mother makes every day
and we pray You to bless them and touch them with your Grace.
We pray this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Pentecost Sunday/Multicultural Mass
Pentecost Sunday falls on 19 May this year and our school, in conjunction with the St Augustine's parish, will celebrate this day with a Multicultural Mass. At this Mass, families will celebrate all their different cultural backgrounds through hymns and prayers in different languages and processions featuring the flags of our cultural heritage. After the Mass, over in the Curran Centre, there will be sharing of traditional foods, songs and dances. All are welcome to join us on this joyful day. If you have a song or dance that you would like to share at the gathering after Mass, please contact Maria Woods if you need any clarification.
If your child/children would like to participate in the entrance procession and carry a flag of their cultural heritage, please fill in the Google Form so the school can print the flags for you.

CSYMI Lunch Club - Launch
On Thursday 2 May, CSYMI (Catholic Schools Youth Ministry International) lunch club for Years 3-6 was launched. The lunch club involves singing, games and sharing in our faith. Dan Saban (Senior Youth Ministry Development Officer from the CSO) and Josiah Varney (Regional Ministry Assistant) came to explain what CSYMI is all about and lead the activities. The theme of the day was about having gratitude to God for all his blessings. Mrs Woodward, Josiah and Ashlinn De Dassel (another Regional Ministry Assistant) will share the running of the CSYMI lunch club every Thursday in the hall after eating time.
Project Compassion - Water Tank Fundraiser
A huge thank you to everyone who gave so generously to Project Compassion. Our school total was a fabulous $1769
A Message from the Project Compassion team at Caritas Australia
Thank you so much for reaching out and for your ongoing support of Project Compassion by participating in Tapitas this year! Your schools generosity is truly appreciated.
The funds raised during Project Compassion this year will go towards supporting vulnerable communities all around the world, not just the communities featured in 2024. For communities in Samoa, the amazing amount of $1,769.00 raised by St Augustine's School, Coffs Harbour, could contribute towards providing a 5,000L water tank, among other vital resources needed for communities to ensure access to clean drinking water and improve their overall quality of life.
Caritas Australia would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed - your kindness has made a tangible impact and brought hope to those in need.
Once again, thank you for your school’s commitment to making a difference through Project Compassion!
Warmest regards,
The Project Compassion team

Sand pit play at St Augustine's
This past week we have started to reinvigorate the sandpit play area at our school. Our aim is to provide more opportunities for creative, supported play, developing social skills, imaginative play skills and strengthening our bodies through digging in the sand and pushing heavy wheelbarrows. It has been lovely to see many children engage in this activity with such positive enthusiasm. Apologies for the sandy socks coming home!
