Principal's Message
Thursday 26 September 2024- Term 3 Week 10
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been a fantastic term filled with many wonderful events across all aspects of school life. Our outstanding school musical was a true highlight, and our Father’s Day breakfast, liturgy, Learning Journey, and Colour-Thon were all beautiful examples of our school community coming together to celebrate the special people who make St Augustine’s School so unique.
As we look forward to early next term, we are excited to celebrate our Grandparents on Friday, 18 October, followed by our school socials. Our students always enjoy the opportunity to dance and spend time together in a fun and lively environment.
A few quick reminders:
- Staff supervision at school begins each morning at 8:15am. Students should not arrive before this time, as there is no supervision. Playtime starts at 8:30am.
- Albany Street drive-through is a kiss-and-drop at all times. Parents should not get out of their cars as this interrupts traffic flow.
- Student behaviour on the bus should be of a high standard. Students travelling on a bus must use a seat belt and remain seated and calm. Unwanted nasty or rude behaviour is unacceptable and should not be tolerated.
- Second hand uniforms - we are always on the look out for uniforms and are particularly short on boys shirt. If you have any you would be happy to donate please send them in.
We are thrilled about the work that has begun this week on the Hill and the Sustainable Garden on the western side of the school. We look forward to unveiling the terraced Hill early next term. A huge thank you to all the families who contribute to fundraising in any way. This initiative is a joint venture between the Parent Forum and the school, with your fundraising efforts directly supporting projects like this.
Please mark Friday, 18 October, in your calendar as the Parent Forum hosts a wine and cheese night for parents and friends/family. It should be a great night, and we look forward to seeing you there.
Finally, a reminder that today is the last day of school for students, and they will return for Term 4 on Tuesday, 15 October. Please note that Monday, 14 October, is a Staff Development Day, and no students attend school on this day.
Kind regards,
Naomi Loader

Sister School - St Xavier’s School in Arunachal Pradesh, India
Through Fr Joy, we have connected with St Xavier’s School in Arunachal Pradesh, India, where Sr Rose serves as the Principal. We have been in discussions with her on how to create and maintain a meaningful relationship between our two schools. Recently, Mr Watts and 6B class had a wonderful Zoom meeting with Sr Rose and some of her students. Sr Rose has now contacted us asking if we can support a group of students facing severe challenges due to poverty and difficult family circumstances. Our help can provide vital resources, guidance, and emotional support to make a lasting difference in their lives.
As part of our support efforts, we plan to hold two fundraising events:
Free Dress Day: Students are invited to wear FREE DRESS or accessories in the colours of the Indian Flag (orange and/or green) on Friday, 25 October, for a gold coin donation. Please ensure closed-in shoes are worn (no Crocs).
Art Store on Grandparents’ Day: We will be offering student artwork for sale. Grandparents can purchase their grandchild's artwork for a gold coin donation. The artwork will be displayed in classrooms for viewing and sale.
All proceeds from these events will support the students at St Xavier’s School in Arunachal Pradesh.
Thank you for your generosity and support.

Fr Joy’s Birthday and the SAPS Mass
On 27 October, the Sunday 9am Mass will be a special ‘St Augustine’s School’ Mass where all the ministries (readings, music, screen operating etc) will be provided by our school community. It is also Fr Joy’s birthday and we look forward to celebrating his special day with him. Children who are of school age at the Mass are invited to attend Children’s Liturgy (a 15-minute session over in the Curran Centre to have the Gospel explained in a child-friendly way). If you would like to bring a plate to share for morning tea served after Mass, that would be great. Plates can be left on the table outside the church before Mass.
Parish Luncheons
On the 3rd Wednesday of each month, a class attends the Parish Luncheon, where they meet some parishioners and enjoy each other's company. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Wednesday 16 October - 4 Blue will be attending. These children will welcome the parishioners to our school and pray together a decade of the ‘Walking Rosary’ that will be set up on the grass behind the Year 5 classrooms.

Mini Vinnies Winter Appeal
St Vincent de Paul conference members Leon Walsh and John Cullen were on site this week to be presented the cheque from our proceeds of the Mini Vinnies Winter Appeal. Whilst is seems a little while ago now, the gentlemen were astounded at just how much difference a silver coin can make. Thanks to everyone who supported our Cohort Coin Challenge as well as our 100 Club Blanket raffle. Small things can make a big difference and we appreciate each and every one who supports our Mini Vinnies team. Have a great holiday break.

Barney Barselaar Football Cup
The annual Barney Barselaar Cup took place at Woolgoolga fields last week with St Augustine's fielding a strong mixed team of girls and boys. The sportsmanship and teamwork shown by the group was excellent throughout the day and they narrowly missed out on the grand final after a golden goal playoff. The games had the spectators on the edge of their seats, with some heart-stopping moments in front of goals at both ends of the field.
There were great saves from our goalkeepers and impressive finishes from our attacking players, as well as some near misses! Some of our passing, crosses and teamplay were awesome to watch and the team improved their performances each time they played.
Although we ultimately missed out on the final, the gala day promotes a focus on team spirit, which was really encapsulated by the St Augustine's team throughout the whole day.
Great effort and congratulations to the squad: Kai Brian, Jack Tyler, Taj Carniarto, Cohen Straw, Reuben Wong, Yuan Grandeza, Josh Edwards, John Rajesh, Johan Rajesh, Darby Wall, Brooklyn Kennedy, Ariana Yaya, Isla Hottes, Tahina Yaya and Rosie Nealand.
Polding Cricket
Congratulations to Daniel Martin who attended the NSW CPS Cricket Championships last week and was selected in the Polding team to compete at the NSW PSSA Cricket Championships! A huge achievement Daniel! Well done.
Lismore Diocesan Netball Knockout
Congratulations to our students who competed at the Lismore Diocesan Netball Knockout this week. The girls battled it out against teams from the other three zones in our diocese. After just missing out on a place in the grand final, the girls went on to tie for 3rd place in the 3rd v 4th play off. A huge thank you to Mrs Robyn Warren for coaching the side on the day.
